Gaza War

In a dramatic turn toward ending nearly two years of conflict in Gaza, US President Donald Trump’s peace initiative has gained traction, with Hamas announcing it will release all remaining Israeli hostages and signaling willingness to transfer Gaza’s administration to an independent Palestinian body. Trump has simultaneously called on Israel to immediately halt its bombing campaign, emphasizing that the safe return of hostages depends on a cessation of violence

According to statements released on Friday and Saturday, Hamas partially accepted the US-proposed 20-point peace plan, agreeing to free both living and deceased hostages if conditions for exchange are met. The group, however, made it clear that further negotiation is required over several key issues, especially those relating to the future governance of Gaza and broader Palestinian rights. Hamas reiterated its readiness to begin mediated talks on the implementation of the peace deal while reserving Palestinian national consensus in resolving outstanding issues.

The Israeli government responded by stating its intent to cooperate fully with President Trump’s plan and to prepare for the initial steps involving the release of hostages. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Israel “will continue to work in full cooperation with the President and his team to end the war in accordance with the principles set out by Israel, which align with President Trump’s vision”. Despite these diplomatic efforts, reports from Gaza city noted fresh Israeli airstrikes resulting in casualties just hours after Trump’s intervention, highlighting the fragile and tense nature of the situation.

World leaders, including India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, openly welcomed recent progress and voiced support for efforts toward “durable and just” peace in the region. Other major players such as Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Jordan were credited by Trump for helping mediate the emerging deal.

While momentum builds for a potential ceasefire and resolution, much remains uncertain – especially on issues involving Hamas’s future role in Gaza and Israel’s security concerns. Trump’s public deadline for Hamas acceptance and statements about “grave consequences” if negotiations fail have added pressure for swift action. The coming days will be crucial as both sides and international mediators work to finalize terms that could reshape the future of Gaza and impact stability across the Middle East.
